Beyond the Basics workshop

Service Description

‘Beyond the basics’ is a photography workshop that is designed as a follow up to our beginners courses and is ideal for anyone wishing to further their photography knowledge, learn some advanced techniques and improve their composition skills. This day long practical workshop will provide plenty of useful tips during a day of taking photos in the Brisbane CBD with the assistance and guidance of our knowledgeable tutors. We commence the morning session at the cultural center located in South Bank, following a brief introduction, we proceed across the Victoria Bridge to the Brisbane CBD where our primary focus will be on creative photography, specifically utilising composition, depth of field, and other advanced techniques. During our walk, we'll pass numerous points of interest, providing ample opportunities to capture captivating images of the bustling streets, diverse architecture, and noteworthy sites that Brisbane boasts. Following a midday break for lunch, our journey continues as we explore more photographic techniques that include black and white photography, controlling light, using filters and more. We conclude the day with a visit to the Roma Street Parklands to capture some nature and macro images before we cross the Kurilpa Bridge back to South Bank for some night photography. What you will learn With particular emphasis on composition, you will also learn about advanced exposure techniques, the priority modes and exposure compensation, capturing motion using the panning technique, meter settings and how to use them, white balance, using aperture and shutter speed creatively, when to use flash / mixing ambient light with flash, controlling light using reflectors and diffusers, filters and when and how to use them effectively. What camera do you need To get the most from this workshop a Digital SLR or Mirrorless / micro four thirds camera is recommended, the smaller ‘bridge cameras’ may also be used but we do recommend checking in with us prior to booking. Tripods are provided if you do not have one.

Cancellation Policy

If you have to cancel your booking then we will be happy to offer a place on another course/workshop or a full refund providing that we are given at least 6 days notice. No refunds are possible for cancellations made within 6 days of the course date or for no-shows. Photo Genius Pty Ltd reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any photography course or workshop due to bad weather, tutor illness or inadequate enrolment. In the case of cancellations refunds will be made available upon request (with the exception of cancellation due to poor weather.) Wet weather policy If a course or workshop has to be cancelled due to bad weather then participants may choose to attend another course/workshop at a later date as listed on our website. Sorry but we are unable to offer refunds on courses or workshops cancelled or re-scheduled due to bad weather. All refunds transactions are made via PayPal.
