About Photo Genius
Photo Genius was founded in Brisbane in 2008 by photographer and tutor Paul Farris, originally operating as Learn Photography before becoming Photo Genius in 2012. For more than 18 years, Paul has helped thousands of photographers build confidence, understand their cameras and take better photographs through friendly, practical, hands-on tuition. What started with local photography courses has grown to include personalised One-to-One tuition, specialist workshops and a popular YouTube channel which has developed into a substantial international photography education platform, with more than 29 million views and over 300 free tutorial videos.

With a background in photography from Richmond-upon-Thames College in London, Paul became a full-time photography tutor after relocating to Brisbane, QLD Australia. Paul's enthusiasm and passion for photography knows no bounds, and through Photo Genius, he is committed to assisting others unlock their true photographic potential.
Paul is also a familiar face as the host of the Photo Genius YouTube channel. This platform has achieved remarkable success, accumulating over 29 million views to date and offers a treasure trove of more than 300 free photography tutorial videos, providing enthusiasts worldwide with an excellent opportunity to indulge in their passion for photography and enhance their skills.

Beginners photography workshop
If you are a complete novice or are unfamiliar with your camera then the perfect place to start is with our Beginners Photography Workshop. This is is our most popular course and includes a morning of essential theory (what do the buttons on your camera do) followed by an afternoon of practical photo taking around the South Bank parklands in Brisbane that also includes an brief introduction to low light and night photography.

Night photography course
A short practical photography course packed with tips and advice on how to take great photos after dark. A small group guided by a Photo Genius tutor ensures everyone gets plenty of attention and the chance to capture some great photos of Brisbane city at night. Please note this course does not run during the peak summer months.
